Getting geared up!
Mood:  cool
Topic: Ham radio

We're getting closer to the next sunspot cycle and I'm all excited! I've picked up a shinny new Yaesu FT-857D. I had it in the truck for a few weeks, but I decided it would get much more use in the house, so I picked up an HVU-8 multiband HF/VHF/UHF vertical. Not the best antenna, but it'll work for my needs, especially when those sun spots start popping up. I'll also be able to do some 6m/2m/70cm SSB work when there's nothing on 10m!

Back on the air!
Mood:  happy

I am happy to say that I have recently moved from Beachwood, NJ to South River, NJ. I've gotten my IMax 2000 vertical up on the new house. It's sat silently on my old house for the last 3 years, since I had to move my radio due to the pending birth of my daughter. It's now hooked up to a President HR2600 10m mobile radio, next to my computer. No tunning was needed, with an SWR of about 1.3:1 on 28.400!

The first station I heard was in Chicago with another one in Virginia. I couldn't manage any contacts in the limited time I had, but I hope to start knocking out the contacts soon. My next goal is to get my Astatic D-104 "Silver Eagle" hooked up to the radio. I've managed to hold onto this classic mic for a number of years now in the hopes that one day I'd be able to use it again.

Listen for me on 28.400 and 146.520 if you are in the Middlesex/Monmouth/Ocean Counties area of NJ.
